Carlsbad Home Tour: Real Estate in Carlsbad, California

Calavera Hills

Calaveras Hills is located in the northeast corner of Carlsbad. This area is convenient to Plaza Camino Real (“the mall”) and all the big box stores along Route 78 (“the 78”).

This area boasts excellent schools, with a new middle school currently being built in the area. The prices are among the lowest in Carlsbad, only because being in the northeast corner adds a few minutes to a San Diego commute. The hilltop location means cool ocean breezes every afternoon.

Calaveras Hills boasts a large regional park that hosts many of Calrsbad’s “TGIF” Friday Jazz concerts in the summer. And Calaveras Lake is an open space area perfect for hiking and picnics. For a real treat, take the trail to the overlook some evening and enjoy a panoramic ocean and sunset view.

Here’s a typical late 1980s neighborhood known as “The Summit”. These homes range in size from 1800-2300 square feet, and are currently priced in the $600,000s, a bit higher for the largest ones.
If you’re tired of stucco and tile, Calaveras Hills has a tudor style neighborhood called “Tamarack Point”. This is a street scene of homes in the 1600-2200 square foot range, starting in the high $500,000s.
“The Knolls” is another neighborhood built around 1987. Yes, we had a building boom here in the late 1980s. These homes are easy to spot – look for the black anodized aluminum windows. Homes here range from 1800-2200 square feet, and are priced from the $600,000s.
There’s some new construction in the Calaveras Hills area. This is a scene of the homes going up, but there are completed neighborhoods and some resales. Homes in this new section are 2400-3200 square feet, and sell in the $600s and $700s, depending on size and views.
